MAY DAY

The 1st of May is known as workers day. This day commemorates what happened to South African workers and other workers all over the word. Workers day is a historical day that took place during the period of 1886. Through several demonstrations of workers, South Africa felt that there was a need to respect the rights of workers and some labour practices. This day also helped with employment standards.
In South Africa the communist party, trade and labour unions were used to fight against apartheid.  This is one of the reasons why South African government choose to commemorate this day to workers as well as to use it as a way to forget about the oppressive regime.
This public holiday does not receive the fuss it all deserves; it also serves as a strike reminder about government’s power and the working class.
Many workers from different departments strike for certain reasons. The recent strike that took place in South Africa is the bus strike and teachers strike. From my own opinion workers do not just strike they have a motive behind. If teachers are not happy learners get affected, they daily schedule of learning gets affected. While looking at the bus strike, many people rely on buses for transportation because taxis are expensive.
So the government must create a better life for its citizens. It doesn’t help wakes up in the morning, saying that they going to work and they are not happy within that environment. For someone to love his or her job they must be comfortable in that environment. Workers are important for the development of South Africa, so let us show them all the respect that they deserve.
